Breakfast on My Face

Don't look too closely...this is my already in use jar! :)
Today I washed my face with my breakfast.

Well not exactly....but almost!

I love oatmeal. I eat it almost every morning sprinkled with nuts, a little fruit and a dash of brown sugar.

But this morning I put oatmeal and nuts on my face…with a spot of tea.

Are you crazy, woman? Who does that? I did and so can you. I will tell you how!

Here’s the story: I was at my favorite health food store several weeks back browsing their skin care section when I came across an interesting jar with facial cleanser in it. It was light and something powdery and loose was inside. What could be in that jar that could clean my face?

Ingredients: Ground oatmeal and ground almond meal.

An “I can do that” moment occurred. I went home and ground up my oatmeal and almonds ( raw unsalted- you can also buy a bag of almond meal at your favorite health food store), added a little chamomile tea leaves, put it all in a jar, made a label and put it in my bathroom until later use.

I was interested because number one I have sensitive skin and number two, I keep reading that you should not use soap on your face because it is bad for your skin.

The directions were simply to take a bit of the mixture, add water and make a paste which you apply in gentle circular motions to your face instead of soap and instead of a washcloth.

Let me just tell you, it’s a little messy…but today while I was in the shower just letting that oatmeal, almond and chamomile work on my face while I massaged it in gentle circles, I felt like I was at a spa it felt so good on my skin! It was WORTH a little oatmeal on the bathtub floor! ;)

I let it sit there on my face while I finished my shower before I rinsed it off and when I got out, seriously my skin felt VERY soft and wonderfully clean! Even after I put lotion and make up on…it feels soft and like it can BREATHE!

So yes, I say…TRY IT!

Do you have a coffee grinder? That works great, but a blender might work well too.

First grind up maybe a half a cup of oatmeal until it is a semi-fine powder and put it in a jar.
Next, grind up about the same amount of almond meal…nice and fine but not so much it turns into almond butter. Put it in the jar. If you want, you can add a few tea leaves, for added nutrients or scent. I just opened one of my organic tea bags and poured it in. Shake it all up! Done!

What I really like about this mix is that it does not go bad for a very long time. There is no water or oils to spoil, just dry ingredients that will easily keep in the jar. The oatmeal and almond provide a gentle exfoliation while the oils from the almonds keep the mixture moisturizing.

If you try it, let me know how you like it! If you want to try it but don’t want to make it, let me know and I will make up a jar for you!

Thanks for visiting my Two Scents!

This morning I washed and conditioned my hair with baking soda and apple cider vinegar. Basically I'm turning into a hippie, and you're helping. :)
